Victims honoured at Ottawa rally
The three women killed in the Ottawa Valley will not soon be forgotten to more than 200 people who attended the annual Take Back the Night rally in Centretown Thursday night.
Public speakers took aim at a number of local injustices over the past year: gang rape by sports teams, issues on campuses, trans-rights, police brutality, and many more.
While the march was filled with cheers, kazoos and whistles, the rally beforehand was marked with feelings of anger, frustration and, at times, sadness.
A moment of silence was held for Anastasia Kuzyk, Carol Culleton and Nathalie Warmerdam, who were killed on Tuesday. A man is in custody facing first-degree murder charges.
“It’s hard to be here,” said Julie Lalonde, a researcher who is studying the area of Renfrew County since she was hired by its Women’s Sexual Assault Centre earlier this year.
The region she is studying happens to be the area where the the killings took place this week.
