Ottawa and Gatineau traffic updates for Oct. 2, 2015
Good morning commuters!
Let’s all get out our lucky trolls and horseshoes and hope for a better commute than what I saw Thursday afternoon.
Seriously, cars on roofs, three, four and five-car pileups in construction zones, dump trucks losing loads of rocks, pedestrians hit, cyclists hit and cars spewing smoke on the shoulder of the highway.
I think there were about 10 tow-truck calls to the westbound 417 between 3 and 6 p.m. yesterday.
And, I still get daily calls and e-mails from people miffed about the number of crashes and the daily spotting of other commuters using their phones while driving.
Well, the city’s STEP (selective traffic enforcement program) announced this week it is targeting two things: distracted drivers and people who do rolling stops.
If this is you, expect more eyes to be peeled and fewer breaks to be handed out.
Meanwhile, Gatineau has gone one step further. They’ve brought photo-radar back.
As for today, a few major construction projects you may have missed yesterday. The biggie is in Mechanicsville on Albert Street.
Until Oct. 23, it’s down to one lane each way between the City Centre and Bayview. It’s definitely slow-going there and perhaps time to consider Somerset or Gladstone to slip back and forth between Little Italy and Hintonburg.
Have a great day!
