Injured dog cleared to fly to Ottawa
An severely injured dog who couldn’t fly from Nicaragua to Ottawa for a surgery is now cleared for takeoff.
Tyson, whose snout had been cut in half about a year ago from a machete accident, had been waiting to fly into Ottawa for a reconstructive surgery by Dr. Graham Thatcher, a vet specializing in dentistry.
However, both United Airlines and American Airlines, citing concerns he could further injure himself, refused to let the dog on board.
On Tuesday, Thatcher told the Sun things are looking up — United Airlines had worked things out to accommodate Tyson.
The airline had initially offered to fly Thatcher into Nicaragua for Tyson’s surgery, which isn’t possible the dog would need multiple surgeries, Thatcher said.
United Airlines had then arranged with a lawyer to acknowledge the airline would not be held responsible for any harm done to Tyson during the flight
