Lacombe police officer rescues one-year-old girl from her flame engulfed bedroom on her birthday
A one-year-old girl was rescued from her bedroom by a courageous cop on her birthday as flames began to engulf her bedroom.
Const. John Hubbard with the Lacombe Police Service was one of the first on scene to a fourplex on fire around 12:25 a.m. on Sunday at the 5400 Block near 45 Street, showing up two minutes after they received the call. He and another officer began banging on doors to alert residents, said Lacombe Police Chief Insp. Steve Murray.
“As the officer breached the door, there was a lady there and she advised the officer the child and her husband were still upstairs,” Murray said, adding the family was unaware their house was on fire.
Hubbard told the husband to leave as the upstairs was filled with smoke as he rushed towards the child’s bedroom.
“He found a one-year-old girl standing in her crib, so he picked her up, along with her little pink blanket and as he was in her room the flames encroached into her room,” Murray said.
