War Memorial ceremony helps bring ‘closure’ for many
It was a way for many to get closure — to have the events of Oct. 22, 2014 come full circle so Canadians can move on from what happened that day.
Several thousand guests and members of the public gathered at the National War Memorial Thursday morning to remember Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and also W.O. Patrice Vincent.
For Martin Magnan, one of the first people on scene to help Cirillo after he was murdered while standing sentry at the National War Memorial one year earlier, the ceremony clears a path for him to move forward.
“It’s a sense of closure,” he said. “I think it was appropriate and all of the parties involved did an incredible job. We need to keep going and with that sense of closure the city gets to pay its respects also.
“It’s a very solemn day.”
