‘Ottawa’ Suspects in Multiple Hit and Runs Arrested After Police Dog Pursuit
Two young men are facing charges after a series of hit-and-run crashes in the ByWard Market area early Monday morning.
It started just after midnight on Monday, when Ottawa police responded to a hit and run involving two vehicles on Murray and Cumberland streets, but it didn’t end there.
“The suspect vehicle fled the scene driving dangerously at a high rate of speed, failing to stop at red lights and then was involved in a series of hit and runs with parked vehicles and city property in the ByWard Market area,” police said in a media release issued Tuesday.
The vehicle headed onto the westbound lanes of the Queensway, then came to a stop just before the off ramp at Bronson Avenue. Witnesses told police they saw two men fleeing on foot toward Arlington Avenue, and a canine unit was called in to track them down.
With the help of the dogs, both suspects were arrested nearby. The driver sustained “minor injuries” during the arrest, police said. He was taken to hospital and later released.
Police believe the two men broke into a home earlier that night as the occupants slept, and that they stole their vehicle along with other items.
