‘Ottawa’ Free Beer For Keen-Eyed Facebook Friend After Brewery Reunited with stolen van
A popular Hintonburg brewery recovered its stolen delivery van within hours of posting details of the theft on social media, thanks to a Facebook friend’s sharp eye and the vehicle’s distinctive appearance.
Sometime overnight, person or persons unknown broke into the brewery on Hamilton Avenue North, between Wellington Street West and Scott Street, “and made off with, among other things, our beloved rocket van,” the brewery posted on Facebook.
The post went up at about 10 a.m.
An hour later, David Armstrong replied to the post with a picture of the van parked at the corner of Daly Avenue and Nelson Street in the Sandy Hill neighbourhood, about a 15-minute drive east of the brewery.
Armstrong said he first noticed the van parked there at about 8 a.m. Thursday, and later took the photo. He also took a photo of the front seats through the van’s window, noting the van appeared to have been rummaged through and that there were empty beer cans inside.
Nearly 100 people “liked” Armstrong’s photo of the van, including the brewery.
“You’re the man!” Beyond the Pale wrote. “Come down to the brewery for some beer later this [afternoon] or tomorrow. We really appreciate the help!”
“You’re like a bearded Batman!” wrote Facebook user Raymond J. Griffiths.
“Dave Armstrong to the rescue!” Dani Vézina chimed in.
