‘Ottawa’ Owners Fear Beloved Horses Sent to Slaughter
Kim Wilson believed her longtime companion, Sargon, was enjoying retirement grazing in a plush green pasture.
But weeks after sending her former race horse to his new home, the Lindsay woman was told he ended up on someone’s dinner plate.
Now she’s champing at the bit to find out how her beloved thoroughbred could have been sold to slaughter without her permission, proof of ownership or medical records.
“I just can’t believe this,” Wilson told the Toronto Sun recently, bursting into tears at the thought of her horse being sold for “hamburger.”
Sargon was about five years old and could no longer be ridden because of old injuries when Wilson adopted him in 2010 through the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society.
