‘Ottawa’ Motorcyclist in Sunday Night Crash Succumbs to Injuries
Ottawa police have confirmed that a 36-year-old motorcyclist involved in a collision with a car near Baseline Road and Clyde Avenue on Sunday evening has died in an area hospital.
The man’s identity has not been released.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. First responders indicated the motorcyclist was thrown an “extreme distance.”
Firefighters who arrived first immediately began first aid, assisted by an off-duty medical professional who was in the vicinity, until paramedics could reach the scene.
It was one of two fatal collisions between motorcycles and cars Sunday night.
The second fatal accident occurred near the intersection at Eagleson and Fernbank roads on Sunday evening when a red Hyundai Accent and a Honda motorcycle collided.
The rider of the motorcycle, who died later in hospital, was identified by police as the motorcyclist as George “Rick” Ellas, 59, of Ottawa.
The 47-year-old driver of the car suffered minor injuries.
Police said alcohol and speed did not appear to have been factors. However, they were still seeking witnesses to better understand the sequence of events that led to the collision.
