‘Ottawa’ Shooting victim’s girlfriend pleads guilty to obstructing police
The girlfriend of homicide victim Jacob Thompson has pleaded guilty to obstructing police, admitting she lied to investigators about where her boyfriend was when he was shot and deleted messages from the dead man’s cellphone.
Geneva Kennedy is expected to be released from jail this week after serving what remained of the 90-day sentence she received earlier this month for misleading police about what happened during the shooting at Thompson’s Elmira Drive home in the early morning hours of Sept. 24.
Kennedy, 39, and her 20-year-old daughter Brianna Kennedy were both charged with accessory to the still unsolved homicide, but that charge was withdrawn against Geneva Kennedy following her guilty plea on Nov. 16. Brianna Kennedy is expected back in court on Wednesday.
Court heard Kennedy, who is known as Andrea to friends, twice told police that the 40-year-old Thompson was shot outside.
