‘Ottawa’ Manotick’s Shiverfest Still a go, Despite Morning Fire at Manotick Arena
An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire that broke out at the Manotick Arena early Friday morning.
Firefighters had knocked down the fire with an “aggressive attack” by 6 a.m. and were still on the scene two hours later. Most of the fire damage was done to the kitchen area of the arena but there was smoke throughout with firefighters busy clearing smoke in the rink.
The city’s fire dispatch were called to the arena on Dr. Leach Drive at 5:20 a.m. A 911 call reported flames visible on the side of the building. No one was inside at the time.
When firefighters arrived, flames were visible on the second floor.
Initial estimate of the damages was about $100,000.
