‘Ottawa’ Slipping and Sliding in the Ottawa Forecast with Freezing Rain Warning in effect
Get ready to slip and slide into the weekend.
After record-setting warmth on Thursday, Friday features a freezing rain warning from Environment Canada.
The agency is predicting the possibility of patchy freezing rain during the day and evening and the risk that every walking and driving surface will become slick and slippery.
It helpfully reminded motorists to slow down, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and get ready to adjust their driving for changing road conditions.
Renfrew County school buses were cancelled Friday.
Back in Ottawa, hydro crews were investigating the cause of an outage in the area of St. Laurent Boulevard, Coventry Road and Center Street areas affecting more than 900 customers. Power was expected to be back on by 8:30 a.m. but in the meantime, Hydro Ottawa warned motorists to treat intersections with dark signals as four-way stops.
On Friday, expect clouds and rain showers beginning in the morning. Wind will blow from the east at 20 km/h gusting to 40 this morning. The forecast high is 2 C.
For Friday night, the forecast is for freezing rain or rain, switching to straight rain after midnight and a low of zero that will rise to 5 C by morning.
On Saturday, expect rain, winds that first come from the southeast at 20 km/h then switch to southwest at 30 in the afternoon and a high of 10 C.
The mercury is expected to plunge overnight to – 6 C with a 60-per-cent chance of rain showers or flurries.
For Sunday, the forecast is for clouds, a 30-per-cent chance of flurries and high of zero.
Monday’s forecast features a mix of sun and cloud and high of 1 C and overnight low of -7 C.
The prediction for Tuesday is cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of flurries and high of 3 C and overnight low of -1 C.
Wednesday – the first day of March – is forecast to be cloudy with a 60-per-cent chance of showers and high of 7 C and overnight low of -1 C.
That’s the forecast daytime high for Thursday, too, which is expected to feature a mix of sunny and cloudy skies.
