‘Ottawa’ Capital Facts: The Wards with the Highest and Lowest Crime Rates
n celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Citizen is rolling out one fact each day for 150 days until July 1, highlighting the odd, the fascinating and the important bits of Ottawa history you might not know about.
Somerset ward had Ottawa’s highest crime rate in 2015, with 11,240.4 crimes per 100,000 population. By comparison, West Carleton-March had the lowest, with 1,273.5 crimes per 100,000 residents.
The ward with the largest increase in its crime rate between 2014 and 2015 was Stittsville-Kanata West, where it jumped 30.9 per cent. At the other end of the scale, Kanata North’s crime rate fell 14.1 per cent in that same period.
