‘Ottawa’ Saje Offers Natural Fix to Avoid Sunburns, Bug Bites
Bites and burns are two of the hazards of summer while sweat can just be unpleasant. The harsh chemicals found in many skin-care products are both.
Saje Natural Wellness, a B.C.-based company with two stores in Ottawa, offers solutions to those woes. Saje co-founder Jean-Pierre LeBlanc is dedicated to helping people through the power of plants and natural remedies.
He says all of his products are 100-per-cent natural and contain plant-derived essential oils and base ingredients.
For example, many of us like to sport a natural glow in the summertime. For a deeper tan, LeBlanc suggests exfoliating with sunshine smoothie exfoliating tamarind body scrub and moisturizing with carrot hydrating lotion.
To protect against harmful UV rays, apply sun sense broad-spectrum sunscreen and coco lips lip balm. Stay cool with cool spray refreshing mist and dry with au naturel crystal fresh deodorant stick.
LeBlanc, who recently opened his Westboro location, also suggests keeping a bottle of b-gone chemical-free outdoor lotion to ward off pesky bugs.
Inspired by Eastern traditional medicine and Ayurveda, Saje’s nearly 500 different body-care and aromatherapy products seek to soothe, heal and protect using essential oils.
LeBlanc believes that when someone glows with health, the next step is to reach out and help others. After years of taking prescription drugs to manage chronic pain, he traded in pills for essential oils. The result was so transformative that he decided to spend his life educating people about natural wellness.
In 1993, LeBlanc and wife, Kate Ross LeBlanc, launched their first product line. The six blends, among them the best-selling Peppermint Halo and Immune, were hand-mixed and packaged in their Vancouver apartment.
“People thought we were in the snake oil business,” he joked.
They now have 34 stores in Canada and are opening several more this year, including a handful in California.
