Canada’s Nik Stauskas leads way on offence
Nik Stauskas has heated up and that’s great news for Canada.
After a quiet opener against Argentina, Canada’s top all-around shooter followed his 15-point game against Cuba with another team-high of 16 in Thursday’s 82-62 win over Venezuela.
Stauskas had started 2-for-10 from three-point range over his first two games, then nailed two quickly in the first quarter Thursday. He kept rolling and Venezuela had to account for him.
“I think it spreads the floor to allow Cory (Joseph) to be able to do what he did,” head coach Jay Triano said.
“You get to lean on a shooter when he gets it going and when you do that, other games it’s been different people. But if he’s making shots and the floor has to stay spread, you have to respect that and it opens it up drives to the basket.”
Canada taking advantage, slicing through Venezuela’s resistance with ease.
Stauskas canned 4-of-5 from deep, the rest of the team went just 2-for-11.
