Canada wins again, faces Venezuela in semis
And now, they wait.
Canada took care of business again at the FIBA Americas tournament on Wednesday, putting on an offensive clinic in a 120-103 win over the Dominican Republic, but had to wait for the results of the late tilt between Argentina and Mexico to find out who Friday’s semi-final opponent will be.
A Mexican win by 36 points or fewer would mean a date with Venezuela. If Argentina remained unbeaten, Canada would have to take on the hosts again in a hostile environment.
No matter who you asked shortly after Canada’s seventh-straight win, the opinion was the same: Friday’s opponent doesn’t matter. There is no preference.
“Whether we come in first, second, third or fourth, we got to the semis and we’re going to have to play someone,” starting centre Kelly Olynyk said. “We knew going into this that you’re going to have to win a semi game, whoever it’s against and that’s what we’re in position to do.”
