Blue Jays’ David Price shuts down Yankees
When people start talking about what David Price has meant to this Blue Jays team, the discussion should begin and end with this: five of his eight wins, including the last four in a row, have followed a Toronto loss.
That is the definition of a stopper.
The Blue Jays came to this pivotal series against the New York Yankees on the heels of a rare two-game losing streak, needing their ace to turn the tide. All Price did was toss seven shutout innings in a 4-2 Toronto victory, pushing the Yankees another game behind in the American League East standings.
The Jays now lead by 3.5 games with 12 games to play, with a magic number that sits at 10 to clinch the division title. If the Blue Jays were to play .500 baseball (6-6), the Yankees would have to go 11-2 to beat them.
They are also inching closer to clinching a wild-card berth, with that magic number sitting at six.
