Leaked e-mail shows UFC’s drug-testing program needed overhaul
Trouble has a way of following Vitor Belfort around.
A report this week from Deadspin’s Josh Gross exposed the details of an e-mail sent by the UFC that mistakenly revealed the Brazilian’s testosterone levels were high in the lead-up to his light-heavyweight title fight with Jon Jones at UFC 152 in Toronto.
That Belfort might have been cheating isn’t much of a surprise to people within the MMA community. He was popped for failed drug tests in both 2006 and 2012 and received an exemption to use a controversial testosterone replacement therapy program before they were banned for use by fighters last year.
His name is so associated with sketchy tests that when middleweight champion Chris Weidman called him out for cheating prior to their title fight at UFC 187, barely anyone blinked an eye.
