Murray impressed with O’Connor
Matt O’Connor wants to go to Binghamton, but he could be ready to come back up faster than he thought.
When the Senators signed the former Boston University goalie last May, O’Connor had them promise he would get a chance to learn in the minors. Bryan Murray will stick to his word, but in an interview with TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Senators GM said he has been very impressed with O’Connor.
And that was before O’Connor stopped 18 of 18 shots in Wednesday’s pre-season game against the Sabres.
“I’ve watched him at training camp, I’ve watched him at the rookie tournament, and he could play games pretty soon in the year (for Ottawa),” said Murray. “But very definitely, he’ll go down and play, and hopefully be our No. 1 guy down there and do a good job.”
After the Buffalo game, O’Connor said he’s following the instructions of coach Dave Cameron by “not pacing myself, just come to the rink and really work hard.”
