Habs beat Sens 3-1 in Ottawa’s home opener
The backup plan didn’t work for the Senators.
Home sweet home didn’t taste so sweet for the Senators Sunday night as they returned to the Canadian Tire Centre for the first time this season and suffered a 3-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in front of a sellout crowd of 19,177.
With rookie Matt O’Connor making his debut in the club’s net against the Montreal newcomer Mike Condon at the other end, the Senators didn’t have their best and only Jean-Gabriel Pageau was able to score on the 21 shots Ottawa mustered in the club’s first loss this year.
Tomas Plekanec led the way with a two-goal effort while Torrey Mitchell put it away in the third period.
