Valanciunas sharp as Raptors top Pacers in opener
It couldn’t have started out much worse.
A 16-point deficit, your prize free agent signing needing help walking off the floor after lying motionless after a hard fall in the first quarter, and a fan base already murmuring to itself.
First, DeMarre Carroll returned from that visit to the locker room with word that it was nothing worse than a bruised elbow.
The second quarter saw the much-talked about defensive improvement finally show up as the Raps held the Pacers, who had scored 30 in the first quarter, to a much more Casey-like 15.
Still the offence, and Casey warned this area would be well behind the defence, remained stuck in neutral.
It wasn’t until the second half that the Raptors got that going as they went off for 35 on their way to a 106-99 season-opening win over the Indiana Pacers.
