‘Ottawa’ Brooke Henderson Finishes Strong in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — At times of struggle while she’s hitting a ball at flags, Brooke Henderson often reaches back into her sporting past and draws strength from her days between the pipes.
She did it again this week during the LPGA Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., and the end result was Henderson’s best finish in a tournament in 16 weeks.
A final round of four-under par 68 Sunday on the Travis Pointe Country Club layout pushed Henderson to nine-under for the tournament and into a three-way tie for third with American Jessica Korda and Norway’s Suzann Pettersen, six shot backs of winner Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand.
“Overall it was a solid week,” Henderson said. “It’s always nice to see your name up near the top of the leaderboard. It’s been a few weeks since that happened for me.
“Today was definitely a solid day for me. I missed some opportunities but I also made up for a couple here on the back nine.
