‘Ottawa’ Suspect in Armed Rideau Street Assault Surrenders to Police
A 23-year-old Ottawa man surrendered, along with a black handgun, to police Monday nightin connection with an assault on Rideau Street last month.
The central district criminal investigations unit had appealed for help last week to identify a suspect in the Jan. 26 assault.
Police said there was an altercation between two men near the intersection of Rideau and William streets at about 9:30 p.m. that evening.
One of the men was carrying a black handgun which he used to assault the other man, they allege.
Police said that Mahanad Alkobisi turned himself in at the Elgin Street station, was arrested by investigators and was tomake a court appearance Tuesday morning. A black handgun was also turned over to police.
Alkobisi is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.
