Ottawa 67’s drop opener in Peterborough
The Ottawa 67’s refused to go away Thursday but came up short in a season-opening loss to the Peterborough Petes.
Tied nearing the midway mark of the third period Jonathan Ang banged in a lose puck to give the Petes the lead 3-2 lead at home.
Eddie Schultz would score his first OHL goal four minutes later after picking off the clearing attempt by Ottawa goalie Liam Herbst with the Petes shorthanded before 67’s rookie defenceman Noel Hoefenmayer scored his first in the league as the Petes edged Ottawa 5-4.
Eric Cornel added an empty net goal and Konecny added his second of the game for Ottawa with seconds left to make things interesting but it was too little too late.
The game ended the way much of it was played, that is to say it wasn’t overly pretty but was played at a pretty good pace for a first outing. The 67’s will look to tidy things up in Mississauga on Friday night.
