Lightning strikes in overtime as Winnipeg Jets fall
Overtime was wide open and the Tampa Bay Lightning made their best chance count.
Following a partial breakaway for Bryan Little that was stopped, the Lightning converted on a nifty three-way passing play that was tapped in by Alex Killorn 36 seconds into overtime to produce a 4-3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
The Jets, who fall to 4-2-1, continue this six-game homestand against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, with puck drop set for just after 5 p.m.
Following a four-day break between games, the Jets were aiming for a quick start out of the gate and it was mission accomplished on that front.
However, the Jets still gave up the first goal of the game.
The Lightning scored first as Tyler Johnson found defenceman Braydon Coburn in the high slot for a perfect one-timer at 12:17 of the first period.
The Jets replied at 16:28 as Nikolaj Ehlers took a pass from Mark Scheifele and beat Ben Bishop with a shot to the blocker side.
