‘Ottawa’ Body of Elderly Man Pulled From Gatineau River
The body of an elderly man reported missing from Wakefield on Tuesday afternoon was found in the Gatineau River in the evening along Chemin Riverside south of the village.
He was pronounced dead at the Wakefield Memorial Hospital at about 9 p.m. but there were no details available immediately about how and where he went into the water but it was believed the man had a health problem.
According to the village’s Facebook group, police had asked for the help of anyone with a boat to assist in the search in the hours before the man’s body was found at Farm Point.
The man has not been identified but residents reacted with sadness to the death of a “peaceful man” who walked with a cane.
