‘Ottawa’ Ashion Tips for Turning Heads at Ottawa’s Most Glam Spring Gala
hen it comes to setting trends on the red carpet, Beyoncé is in a league of her own. But that doesn’t mean women in Ottawa can’t be fashion-forward, too.
“I love this look. Beyoncé and Tilda Swinton both looked fabulous dressed in a pantsuit. Blazers and pants in fluid fabric — not structured material — are uber trendy.”
Timmins, who attended the CFDA Awards, will also be in Ottawa June 11 as Hudson’s Bay is the fashion partner for the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala at the National Arts Centre.
She encourages guests to break out the bling and dress their very best when getting ready for a splashy night out.
“I’m seeing a lot of off-the-shoulder dresses and long sleeves, which is great for women of all ages.”
Ruffles on hems, inset lace details, open backs and the return of the figure-flattering bias cut are also top trends.
Boudoir dressing — think slip-like dresses — has been updated for the red carpet in myriad prints, and fabrics like elegant chiffon and sinuous silk speak to the movement toward fluidity and chic silhouettes. Hollywood’s fascination with exposed skin — deep V-necks and long slits — shows no sign of abating, but may require contemplation for refined events like the GG Awards.
Colour runs the gamut from reds and champagne to blush, soft lilac, gold, silver and black. Nature motif prints like butterflies and flora and fauna are also in, Timmins says.
“There is a lot of shine, sequins and bugle beads. Chokers, statement earrings and minimal shoes with one strap around the ankle and across the toe are also trending.”
Timmins, whose style icons include Rihanna, Tilda Swinton and magazine editor Carine Roitfeld, plans to wear a long-sleeve black-and-white Pucci gown on Saturday night.
After all, the stars shouldn’t have all the fun.
