Senior G20 cop guilty on three charges
Supt. Mark Fenton has been found guilty on three Police Act charges related to the G20 weekend more than five years ago, the only senior officer held accountable for the mass arrests of June 2010.
Retired Superior Court judge John Hamilton said Fenton, a dedicated officer with an unblemished record, was frustrated by how the police had been caught “flat footed” by the violent Black Bloc. “Hooligans” had destroyed property and torched police cars, he said. As the incident commander in the control centre, Fenton had had been ordered to take back the streets.
But he went too far, Hamilton found.
