Man dead after Highway 17 crash south of Cobden

A 51-year-old man is dead and another person suffered serious injuries after a tractor-trailer and sedan crashed on Highway 17 south of Cobden, Renfrew County paramedics say.

Renfrew County Paramedic Chief Michael Nolan said the call for a head-on crash came in around 10:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Paramedics pronounced the driver of the sedan dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered serious injuries, Nolan said.

Police have closed the highway in the area. Detours are in place.
