Valley towns hug, cry at vigil to honour 3 dead women
Only the honking of far-off Canada geese broke the moment of silence in the Ottawa Valley hamlet of Wilno where hundreds paid tribute to three women killed in the area.
The deaths of Anastasia Kuzyk, Nathalie Warmerdam and Carol Culleton Tuesday have shaken those who live in three separate but tight-knit rural communities about 200 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
“Our lives have been changed forever,” said Julie Keon, who led Friday’s candlelight vigil.
She urged people to set aside their anger to remember the women, but to harness its “raw power” to get action later.
