Canada’s role in the world matters more in Ottawa this election than it did four years ago.
And in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Toronto. And Niagara.
Conventional wisdom suggests foreign policy issues rarely determine the outcome of Canadian elections. Especially during economic tough times. Voters are interested in issues close to home – job creation, health care and taxes.
But the importance of foreign policy hits closer to home in Ottawa after the year the nation’s capital has had with its sons joining the Islamic State terrorist group, an ISIS-inspired attack in the heart of the city and the alarming number of men rounded up by the RCMP because of alleged ties to terrorist groups.
