‘Ottawa’ 911 hang-p Leads OPP to Man Suffering Severe Burns to Most of Body
A Kaladar, Ont., man suffered life-threatening burns to most of his body when a can of paint thinner near a wood stove exploded, police say.
Officers from the Kaladar OPP detachment responded to a 911 hang-up call at a business on Highway 7 at about 8:20 a.m. on Monday.
When they arrived, they found the owner of the business had suffered serious, life-threatening burns on most of his body. He was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The local fire department, as well as the Ministry of Labour and Office of the Fire Marshall of Ontario, were notified and are investigating.
The initial OPP investigation has determined the man was burned as he opened a wood stove to add more wood. A nearby bucket of paint thinner is believed to have caught fire, causing the man’s severe burns.
