Ottawa police are trying to find witnesses to an assault on Preston Street in April, during which a young man’s ear and finger were partly bitten off.

Police say a fight broke out in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 17, outside a bar on the 300 block of Preston Street, between Louisa and Aberdeen streets.

When officers arrived at about 2 a.m., they found a 20-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.

“The victim had a portion of an ear bitten off as well as a portion of a finger,” police said Thursday in a media release issued more than a month after the assault.

But this isn’t the first time police notified the public about the fight. A media release issued several days after the incident, which also appealed for witnesses to come forward, didn’t include details of the injuries and didn’t drum up a lot of interest, according to the media relations department.

The suspect, described only as “a male,” was last seen travelling north on Preston. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt and is believed to have “an eastern European accent,” police said.
