‘Ottawa’ Ottawa Marathon Winners: Ethiopia’s Dino Sefir and Koren Jelela
Ethiopia’s Dino Sefir and Koren Jelela won the men’s and women’s titles in the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon on Sunday.
Sefir finished the 42.195-kilometre course in a time of 2:08:14, while Jelela clocked 2:27:06.
The leading Canadian runners were Kip Kangogo (2:21:23) of Lethbridge, Alta., and Tarah Korir (2:35:45) of Sr. Clement, Ont. Kangogo finished eighth overall, but Korir was fifth among women.
Following Sefir across the finish line, in order, were fellow Ethiopian Shura Kitata (2:10:04) and Kenyans Dominic Ondoro (2:11:39), Evans Ruto (2:12:55) and Luka Rotich (2:17:15), who finished second in the Ottawa race two years ago.
Second through fourth places among women were also claimed by Ethiopians: defending champion Aberu Mekuria (2:29:51; Sechale Delasa (2:32:46) and Makida Abdela (2:34:29).
