‘Ottawa’ Busloads of Ottawa High School Students Head to Quebec for after-prom, Alcohol
Post-prom planning groups from at least 15 Ottawa high schools have partnered with a private party planner to ship students across the border to Gatineau for late night celebrations, where the legal drinking age is only 18.
Promnight.ca, an Ottawa party planner that has specialized in delivering after-prom party services for years without incident, has rented out hangar No. 4 at the Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport for the festivities and will be shuttling students from their school-sanctioned events to the airport, where a licensed bar will be ready to serve drinks.
PromNight.ca has been putting on events such as these for years. The company was behind a controversial October 2014 Halloween party — Spookland — at Mont Cascades Ski Resort in Quebec at which nine students were rushed to hospital with alcohol and drug poisoning and others reported they’d been sexually assaulted. Police investigated, but no charges were ever laid.
