‘Ottawa’ ‘Beef’ Johnston is Golf’s New Sensation
A tornado of beard hair and white teeth spun through Baltusrol Golf Club on Tuesday picking up new fans along the way.
“BEEF!” “BEEF!” “BEEF!”
If fandom can be judged in decibels — and why can’t it? — Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston is the biggest star at the PGA Championship. Apologies to Rory, Rickie and Jordan but they didn’t have children sneaking under the ropes and running into the middle of the fairway to get their autographs. Then again, they probably didn’t flash a broad smile and yell “Come on!” before waving kids over.
Things are a little crazy right now for golf’s overnight sensation. A week after finishing in eighth place at the British Open, the 27-year-old from Northern London is poised to be the sport’s next great everyman. Last week he signed an endorsement deal with Arby’s and will wear the fast-food joint’s logo on his hat and shirt beginning this week.
