‘Ottawa’ Two Men Arrested as Police Investigate east-end Shooting
Two men were arrested and a low-rise apartment building was evacuated while police investigated an early morning shooting Tuesday at 1993 Jasmine Cres. in the city’s east-end.
Police and paramedics received a call from a woman reporting gunshots fired at 7:41 a.m. A single bullet was fired through a fourth floor apartment and into a unit on the third floor below, said police.
The two suspects arrested were co-operative and surrendered to police without incident. The guns and gangs unit is investigating.
No injuries were reported.
Many residents were awakened and sent out of their apartments half-asleep as police evacuated the building to investigate.
The shooting was the latest violence on Jasmine Crescent. Nooredin Hassan, 20, was shot in the chest on the street in March and pronounced dead in hospital.”What do you expect? This is Jasmine Crescent,” said one resident who did not want to be named.
In April 2015, Connor Stevenson, 18, was stabbed to death inside a stairwell in his highrise apartment building at 2020 Jasmine Cres. Last September, Issaiah Clachar, 17, was stabbed and killed outside that same building.
Several residents who spoke with Postmedia on Tuesday decried the violence in the neighbourhood, but said police presence has increased in the area in recent months.
