Outaouais Driver Picks Wrong Spot to See How Fast His Car Can Go
Bad idea: Driving 104 km/h faster than the speed limit.
Worse idea: Doing it while the police are sitting there with radar.
The 21-year-old man was recorded driving 174 km/h on Pink Road, in the northern part of Aylmer, between Klock Road and Vanier Road, where the speed limit is 70 km/h.
“That’s one of the highest speeds we have had,” said Const. Pierre Lanthier of Gatineau police.
That section of Pink Road is a straight, two-lane road through forest, and is not blessed by good pavement.
The man was driving a Toyota Celica, but he’s not driving it now. The car left the scene attached to a tow truck, and the owner can’t get it back for a week.
Officers dispensed speedy justice to the fast driver. He has to pay a fine of $1,819, and he gets whacked with 24 demerit points. His licence is also suspended for a week.
