‘Ottawa’ Ottawa Man Arrested After OPP Officer Dragged During Traffic Stop
An Ottawa man is facing charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer after a high-speed chase led to a confrontation that included an officer being dragged by a suspect vehicle.
Ontario Provincial Police said an officer attempted to stop a man Tuesday afternoon for speeding on Highway 401 in South Stormont Township, about 100 kilometres from Ottawa. The driver refused to pull over and sped off. The officer followed the vehicle, which exited the highway a short time later and was intercepted along Highway 138 near St. Andrews West.
When the driver stopped at a traffic light, an officer approached the vehicle and attempted to disable the vehicle. The driver tried to flee, dragging the officer for a short distance before ultimately surrendering.
The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while being pursued by a peace officer, assault of a peace officer and resisting arrest is Jeffrey Sample, 30, of Ottawa.
Sample was held in police custody pending an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall.
