‘Ottawa’ Courthouse Arrest to Lead to Murder Charge in Unsolved May Homicide
A self-confessed robber set to walk out of the courthouse a free man Monday was instead arrested for murder in the unsolved May homicide of Lonnie Leafloor.
Idris Abdulgani, 21, was in court Monday when he pleaded guilty to a robbery that occurred on April 28 of this year. The Crown withdrew a charge of uttering threats and Abdulgani was set to be released from custody after being sentenced for 108 days of time he’d already served. But before he was released, he was arrested for what police suspect is first-degree murder.
Abdulgani is believed to be the same man who had an altercation with the victim over drugs and cash in the weeks prior to the killing. Leafloor’s family believes the man took a knife to Leafloor’s throat during the scuffle and threatened him. Leafloor was afraid and spent the last days of his life carrying a screwdriver for protection.
