‘Ottawa’ Edmonton Soldier Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison for Sex Crimes
A tearful Edmonton soldier who admitted getting sexual favours from his underage stepdaughter in exchange for extended curfews was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison.
The 39-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation, two counts of luring a child and one count of possessing child porn.
Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Debra Yungwirth told court it was aggravating factor that the sex crimes against the “vulnerable” teen happened over an extensive period of time, there was a degree of premeditation and the man had abused a position of trust.
“You exploited a child for your own gratification,” Yungwirth said. “The victim was abused in her own home and in your vehicle, where she should have felt safe.”
