‘Ottawa’ Gatineau Officer Charged with Impaired Driving After Falling Asleep at the Wheel
A Gatineau police officer is facing an impaired driving charge after colleagues say they found him asleep at the wheel of his car on Boulevard Maloney Ouest early Sunday morning.
Police were responding to a 911 call at about 3:45 a.m. when they arrested the off-duty officer, 42, near the intersection with Montee Paiement. He was taken to a Quebec provincial police station for testing and released on a promise to appear in court. His license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle towed and stored.
The force’s professional standards and internal affairs section is also investigating and the officer will face administrative measures, police said.
Police said the officer is not being identified because a prosecutor has yet to approve the charges.
