‘Ottawa’ Driver Lucky to be Alive After Overdosing During Traffic Stop
An Ottawa motorist is lucky to be alive after suffering the effects of a drug overdose during a police traffic stop.
The driver was pulled over by an Ottawa police constable Wednesday morning on Carling Avenue and began to experience breathing difficulties. He aspirated vomit and showed signs of cardiac arrest.
The officer called paramedics, who assessed the man, and administered naloxone, a drug that rapidly blocks the effects of opiods, such as fentanyl, heroin or morphine. The man was quickly stabilized and brought to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus for further treatment.
Paramedics told the officer that the victim would likely have died from the overdose without medical intervention.
