‘Ottawa’ Twinkle toes: Dancers Descend on Gatineau for four-day Competition
A made-in-Quebec dance competition is tap-tap-tapping onto the stage in Gatineau this week.
More than 2,700 dancers from 60 dance studios across Canada, including eight from Gatineau, will converge on Casino du Lac-Leamy Convention Centre for the four-day Hit the Floor event.
Organizers expect close to 800 dance routines of all levels will be performed before a crowd of up to 12,000 spectators between Thursday and Sunday. Dance styles include contemporary, ballet, lyrical, open, jazz, tap, acro, musical theatre and hip-hop.
On Saturday night, the all-stars showcase will feature the competition’s top eight performances, as well as the defending champion of the 2016 edition.
The show will also feature Quest Crew, a world-renowned American dance crew who won first place in the third season of the popular TV show America’s Best Dance Crew. The crew will premiere a new performance specially created for the Gatineau event.
Tickets are available at hitthefloor.ca.
The competition was created by Nicolas Bégin, a professional dancer whose performances have wowed the audience and judges of So You Think You Can Dance Canada and America’s Best Dance Crew.
Hit the Floor has been held annually in Gatineau since 2014. The competition will make its Toronto debut this year.
