‘Ottawa’ Public Health Investigating after Westin Guests Get Sick
Ottawa Public Health is investigating reports of gastrointestinal illness from people who attended events earlier this week at the Westin Ottawa Hotel, now host to many Juno-going guests.
They were informed by Westin staff on Friday of reports from guests at social events March 29 and 30, OPH said. An inspector checked the food premises at the Westin, reviewed “all food safety requirements” and “did not find deficiencies.”
The public health agency is continuing to investigate the reports by contacting guests who went to the functions.
Ross Meredith, the hotel’s general manager, said that the hotel contacted public health when guests told them of flu-like symptoms in order to ensure they were not food-related.
Instead, Meredith said, it seems to be linked to an increase of virus activity in the city.
