Blue Jays offence dries up in loss to Orioles

Blue Jay fans have become accustomed to, and even expectant of, offensive lightning strikes at the Rogers Centre this season. It’s not nearly as much fun, though, when it’s the other team wielding the electrified bats.
Not even the Jays themselves with their explosive, MLB-leading offence have done what the Baltimore Orioles did Friday night.
In one eight-pitch ambush, the Orioles rocked Drew Hutchison’s world with five straight hits, including back-to-back home runs on their way to a 10-2 romp in the opener of a three-game weekend series. It was the second most one-sided loss by the Jays this season, eclipsed only by a 12-3 thrashing at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays on April 24.
With Marcus Stroman almost set to return to the Jays pitching staff, this outing could be a major setback for Hutchison’s bid to maintain his spot in the starting rotation as the Jays head down the stretch with their lead in the American League East now down to a slender half-game over the New York Yankees.
