Blue Jays-Yankees proves to be game of inches
They say football is a game of inches but Monday night the same was true in the tense affair at Rogers Centre.
In the third inning with the Jays up 3-0 and David Price breezing along – he threw 25 pitches to get through the opening two innings — trouble reared its head when with one out Dustin Ackley hit a grounder to the right of second baseman Cliff Pennington.
It was a failure by Pennington to complete a double play in Sunday’s loss to Boston — a throw that tugged Chris Colabello off first — that helped lead to the Jays’ 4-3 loss.
Last night Pennington went to his right, fielded the ball, but once again tugged the throw to first, this time pulling Justin Smoak off the bag.
As it often does, the situation went from bad to worse. A single and walk loaded the bases with who else but Alex Rodriguez coming to the plate.
