Ottawa Senators put Lazar in Top 6 role
Dave Cameron pulled another new look out of his bag of tricks Monday.
This time, you should pay attention though.
After telling everybody to ignore his line combinations during the pre-season, the Senators’ coach got down to business with an 80-minute skate and it certainly looks like the club will have a different look when it faces the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night at the First Niagara Center to open the season.
“I’m leaning that way … but the last game against Montreal I was leaning that way,” said Cameron with a smile.
Of course, the most dramatic change is putting second-year forward Curtis Lazar on the right side with centre Mike Zibanejad and moving winger Bobby Ryan to the left to see if they can provide some offence.
“The coaching is trying different stuff with different guys out. It’s an opportunity and I’ve got to do what I can with it and we’ll see how long it lasts,” said Lazar.
