Tough loss in extras has Jays on brink of elimination
Hanser Alberto’s RBI single with two out in the top of the 14th inning snapped a 4-4 tie on the way to a 6-4 Texas Rangers victory over the Blue Jays and a 2-0 lead in this best-of-five American League Division Series Friday afternoon.
Alberto’s game-winning hit followed a controversial call at second base when Toronto shortstop Troy Tulowitzki appeared to tag Rougned Odor’s foot while it was off the bag for the third out of the inning. After a review, the replay umpires let the call of safe on the field stand.
Alberto followed with his go-ahead single and then Delino DeShields’ infield single delivered the sixth run.
The series now moves to Arlington, Texas for Game 3 on Sunday with the Blue Jays one loss away from being ousted from their first trip to the playoffs in 22 years.
