Joe Carter talks Bautista bat flip, Donaldson for MVP
Jose Bautista is going to get quizzed for decades about his bat-flip home run. Here’s hoping he handles it like Joe Carter treats talk about his famous blast.
“I get asked about it every day,” said Carter, 55, who was a special guest of the Vancouver Giants on Sunday for their WHL game against the Prince George Cougars at the Pacific Coliseum.
He was referring to his long ball off Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Mitch Williams that clinched the 1993 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.
“It never stops. It never changes. People will always tell me where they were, what they were doing. And it’s a good thing. I understand it. It’s a part of history.
“And, so, when they talk to me about it, I act like it’s the first time I’ve ever heard it. To them, it’s that important.
“Let’s face it — you could be remembered for things much worse than that. I’m very happy that it’s that.”
